The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has secured a substantial budgetary enhancement of 9.2% for the forthcoming fiscal year, signaling a pronounced strategic pivot toward national security and demographic intelligence infrastructure. This allocation underscores a deliberate policy emphasis on fortifying internal security frameworks and data-driven governance. A critical component of this fiscal expansion is the earmarking of ₹6,000 crore for the preparatory and operational phases of the 2027 Population Census. This investment represents a foundational commitment to acquiring granular, contemporary demographic data, essential for informed policy formulation, resource allocation, and long-term socio-economic planning. Concurrently, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) has received a significant augmentation in its financial envelope, reflecting an elevated priority on counter-terrorism, counter-intelligence, and cyber-security operations in an increasingly complex threat landscape. Furthermore, an allocation of ₹300 crore has been designated for the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme, a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing infrastructure, connectivity, and livelihood opportunities in border villages. This dual focus—on sophisticated intelligence capabilities and grassroots development in sensitive frontier regions—articulates a comprehensive security doctrine that integrates hard security measures with socio-economic resilience, positioning the MHA to address both conventional and emergent asymmetric challenges.
