Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has been admitted to hospital in Thane,India after doctors discovered blood clots in his brain.

The 52-year-old, who had been facing ongoing health issues, was hospitalised on Saturday night after complaining of a urinary infection and cramps.

Following medical tests, doctors revealed that the clots had been present in his brain, prompting immediate attention.

Dr Vivek Trivedi, the lead doctor in charge of Kambli’s treatment, confirmed that the tests had shown significant findings. Kambli’s health was closely monitored in the hospital, and his doctors continued to perform additional examinations.

Despite his frailty, he recorded a video from his hospital bed in which he assured fans that he was feeling better. He expressed gratitude towards his friend Sachin Tendulkar for his support and stated, “I will never leave this [cricket] because I remember the number of centuries and double centuries I have hit.”

Vinod Kambli was last seen at an event celebrating the legacy of his former coach, Ramakant Achrekar, where he was reunited with Sachin Tendulkar. At the event, Kambli appeared frail, which led to concerns about his health.

Doctors have reported that Kambli’s condition has stabilised, and his progress is being closely monitored. They also noted the presence of electrolyte imbalances, particularly in sodium and potassium, which contributed to cramps and mobility issues. Kambli’s medical team has indicated that the brain clots, which were discovered to be related to previous strokes, have caused neurodegenerative changes affecting his memory and coordination.

Vinod Kambli, who had an illustrious cricket career, is known for his 17 Test matches and 104 One Day Internationals played for India between 1993 and 2000. He was part of the iconic 1990s Indian cricket team and played alongside cricketing legends like Sachin Tendulkar. Despite his early promise, Kambli’s career was hampered by injuries and inconsistencies, leading to his eventual retirement from international cricket.

Previously in August a video showing Kambli struggling to walk on a busy road had gone viral on social media, raising concerns among fans. The former crickter was seen having difficulty maintaining his balance and was assisted by bystanders who came to his aid.

The 51-second video, shared on social media, purportedly show Kambli using a parked motorcycle for support as he attempts to walk. An onlooker can be heard narrating the scene, exclaiming, “Kambli hai bhai. Maa kasam, Kambli hai” (He is Kambli, bro! I swear on my mom he is Kambli).

The video sparked discussions online, with some fans speculating that Kambli might have been intoxicated, while others expressed genuine concern about his health.
