RJD chief Lalu Yadav on Tuesday made a sexist comment about Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Mahila Samwad Yatra, stating that they are going to “letch at women.”
As reported by ANI, Lalu Yadav was reacting to Nitish Kumar’s plans to launch the Mahila Samwad Yatra, a state initiative designed to engage with women directly. He told ANI, “Nain sekne ja rahe hain…”
Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Sinha said that such language does not suit a person sitting in a constitutional position. “These people have defamed Bihar… Bihar wants to be free from such people,” he added.
Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary said Lalu Prasad’s statement is extremely unfortunate. “Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is going to have a conversation with the women of Bihar, and the type of words Lalu Prasad has used, we knew that he is physically ill, but now we can say that he is also mentally ill… He needs to be treated,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bihar Minister Ashok Chaudhary said that Lalu Yadav’s use of such language is an attack on Bihar’s dignity.
“It shows how much envy and jealousy they have towards Nitish Kumar. He (Lalu Yadav) has seven daughters, there are so many woman leaders in RJD, does it suit him to have such a mentality? Using such language for half the population is a sign of political bankruptcy. He should apologise to the women of the country,” he added.

“Not the first time”
This is not the first time Lalu Prasad Yadav has made such remarks. In April 2013, while criticising Giriraj Singh’s comment on Sonia Gandhi, Lalu Prasad Yadav made another sexist statement.
He said, “He should be made to wear bangles, vermilion, bindi, and his face should be blackened for crossing the limit of indecency.”

Earlier in 2023, during an event at the ISKCON temple in Patna, Lalu Prasad Yadav made a controversial rhetorical remark, asking if he should have appointed Union Minister of State Nityanand Rai’s wife as the Chief Minister instead of his own wife, Rabri Devi. The remark was a response to Rai’s criticism, which accused Lalu of overlooking other capable leaders from the Yadav community when he chose his wife as the CM after his arrest in the fodder scam case.
The comment was widely criticised for its sexist undertones. Guru Prakash, the BJP national spokesperson, condemned Yadav’s remarks as “disturbing” and accused him of undermining the dignity of women.
