Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Saturday underlined that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged all ministers to ensure they achieve their respective capital expenditure targets. Capex is critical for driving economic growth and building long-term infrastructure for the nation.
Speaking At CNBC-TV18 IBLA 2024 in Mumbai, Goyal also emphasised that the time is ripe to initiate a discussion on separating food prices from inflation.
Goyal also stated that India’s economy remains robust, attributing the GDP slowdown to the lag effect of the election period. He further emphasised that India is poised to remain the fastest-growing economy in the world.
Women’s Empowerment and Development
Goyal said that the Prime Minister has spoken about women-led development and his vision to empower women and sisters. For far too long, the remarkable work done by women went unrecognised, even though they have played phenomenal roles in shaping our society. By directing resources and opportunities to women, we aim to empower them further and enable them to play an even greater role in India’s growth story.
State Fiscal Responsibility
Goyal added that the government is committed to sound fiscal management, unlike states like Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, or Karnataka, where weak fiscal policies have led to troubling situations. These examples highlight the importance of responsible governance to ensure sustainable growth.
India-U.S. Partnership
Goyal added, “Our partnership with the United States goes far beyond mere numbers. It is strategic, deep, and rooted in mutual trust and shared values.
He added that the exceptional friendship between the Prime Minister and President Trump is a testament to this bond.
