Over 49,000 Challans Issued For Improper Parking At Delhi's 14 Major Markets


Challans Issued For Improper Parking In Delhi: Delhi Traffic Police has issued more than 49,000 challans for improper parking across 14 markets in the national capital this year as of October 31, official data showed, marking a rise of 26.2 per cent as compared to the same period last year.

The markets include Karol Bagh, Sadar Bazar, Chandni Chowk, Kamla Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Vikas Marg, Sarojini Nagar, Green Park, Lajpat Nagar, Yusuf Sarai, Mahipalpur, Rajouri Garden, Tilak Nagar, and Sector-10 Dwarka, an official said.

“These 14 markets witness high daily footfall. The figures clearly indicate an intensified crackdown on parking violations in these busy commercial hubs,” the official said. The traffic cops issued 39,100 challans till October 31 in 2023, which rose to 49,348 this year.

The fine for improper parking in the national capital is Rs 500. Additionally, police towed away 28,935 vehicles from these locations this year till October 31, as against 22,928 vehicles towed away in the same period last year.

Another official said that more than 39,000 vehicles have been prosecuted for improper parking at the city’s four major railway stations until October 22 this year.

The highest number of 14,949 challans were issued around the Old Delhi Railway Station, followed New Delhi Railway Station (13,122), Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station (8,089), and Delhi Cantt Railway Station (3,527).

At the Old Delhi Railway Station, 5,526 challans were issued to auto-rickshaws, 1,070 to buses, 1,145 to taxis, 3,596 to e-rickshaws and 3,612 to other vehicles.

The police also towed away 1,460 vehicles from these railway stations, with the New Delhi Railway Station accounting for the highest numbers at 757.
