WhatsApp has started rolling out a new feature to beta testers that could make it easier to keep track of messages received on the app. The reminders feature that informs users about missed status updates has been updated with the ability to receive reminders for messages, on the latest beta version of the app for Android. The feature is designed in such a way that WhatsApp will only notify users about updates and messages from prioritised contacts, according to a feature tracker.

WhatsApp Message Reminders Rely on Internal Algorithm

After updating to WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.25.29 (via feature tracker WABetaInfo), the description for the feature seen under Settings > Notifications > Reminders has been updated to state that the app will provide occasional reminders for messages, in addition to status updates. Gadgets 360 was unable to access the feature even after installing the latest beta version, which suggests that it is slowly rolling out to testers.

Once the feature is turned on, users will see notifications about messages that they might not have seen on the app. WhatsApp has yet to provide any information related to how the feature works, or whether it will show reminders for unseen messages and status updates for all contacts.

According to the feature tracker, the Reminders feature will inform users about unseen messages from specific contacts, and these will be selected based on interactions in the app. The reminders will reportedly be based on an algorithm that runs on the user’s phone, so a fresh installation of WhatsApp will generate the list of contacts a user has been in touch with again.

It appears that the feature was designed to send out reminders for select conversations in order to prevent the app from inundating users with status updates and messages from all of their contacts. This feature is expected to roll out to more beta testers in the coming days, and could eventually be made available to all WhatsApp users at a later date.

WhatsApp Starts Testing Feature to View, Share Channels Using QR Codes https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/30/whatsapp-starts-testing-feature-to-view-share-channels-using-qr-codes/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/30/whatsapp-starts-testing-feature-to-view-share-channels-using-qr-codes/?noamp=mobile#respond Sat, 30 Nov 2024 13:44:31 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/30/whatsapp-starts-testing-feature-to-view-share-channels-using-qr-codes/

WhatsApp Channels have come a long way since they were introduced on the messaging platform last year, and the Meta-owned service continues to add new functionality on a regular basis. The latest feature for WhatsApp Channels is now in beta and allows users to quickly share, view, and follow Channels using a quick response (QR) code in the app. The feature is currently available to test on recent versions of WhatsApp beta for iOS and Android, and it is likely to roll out to all users eventually.

WhatsApp Channel QR Codes Can Also Be Exported to Other Apps

The new QR code sharing functionality was spotted by feature tracker WABetaInfo on the latest versions of WhatsApp for iOS and Android. Beta testers who have updated to WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.25.7 or WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.24.10.76 might be able to try out the new feature.

According to the feature tracker, users who have the feature enabled on WhatsApp — you’ll need to be on the latest beta version of the app and manage an existing WhatsApp Channel — will be able to open their Channel information panel and select the sharing options, where the option to generate a QR code will be presented.

After the app generates a QR code, users will be able to share it with another user on WhatsApp or other messaging apps. The QR code is shared as an image, so it can also be sent via third-party apps, or emailed and printed. This could come in handy for businesses that want to offer customers an easy way to follow their channel.

It’s currently unclear when WhatsApp will bring the QR code sharing feature to users on the stable update channel. The company is currently testing other useful additions to the app, such as the ability to share entire sticker packs, a ‘Search on the web’ image lookup feature, and cross-device contact management. These features are expected to roll out to users after sufficient testing as part of the beta programme.

WhatsApp Begins Testing Sticker Pack Sharing Feature on iOS, Android https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/29/whatsapp-begins-testing-sticker-pack-sharing-feature-on-ios-android/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/29/whatsapp-begins-testing-sticker-pack-sharing-feature-on-ios-android/?noamp=mobile#respond Fri, 29 Nov 2024 15:31:50 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/29/whatsapp-begins-testing-sticker-pack-sharing-feature-on-ios-android/

WhatsApp recently began rolling out a new feature to beta testers that allows users to share a sticker pack installed on their device. A month after it was spotted, users who have downloaded the latest beta versions of WhatsApp on iOS and Android will be able to choose a sticker pack that share it with another WhatsApp user, allowing them to install the same pack on their phone. Meanwhile, WhatsApp has started allowing some testers to add a message while forwarding content on the messaging platform.

WhatsApp Sticker Sharing Feature Relies on Links

After updating to WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.25.2 (or newer) and WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.24.10.72 via the Google Play beta programme and TestFlight, respectively, testers will be able to access a new feature added to the sticker section on the messaging app. These changes were spotted by feature tracker WABetaInfo.

Beta testers will now see a new three-dot button while browsing through sticker packs that are installed on WhatsApp. Tapping this button reveals two options: Send and Remove. If a user chooses to share a sticker pack, WhatsApp will generate a link to that sticker pack and users can select a user before hitting the send button.

At the moment, it appears that the ability to share entire sticker packs is limited to the ones inside WhatsApp. The feature tracker shared screenshots of the sharing functionality on WhatsApp for iOS ad Android, while sharing the built-in ‘Cuppy’ sticker pack.

Another feature that is rolling out to beta testers on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.25.3 is the ability to add a message while forwarding content. A screenshot shared by the feature tracker shows how a new message field appears after users select contacts while forwarding media on the app.

Gadgets 360 was unable to test both these features on the specified versions of WhatsApp beta for Android, or on subsequent testing versions that were released by the company, including the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.25.12 beta build that rolled out to testers on Thursday. This suggests that the features are being introduced in phases.

WhatsApp Begins Testing 'Search on Web' Image Lookup Feature on Android https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/05/whatsapp-begins-testing-search-on-web-image-lookup-feature-on-android/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/05/whatsapp-begins-testing-search-on-web-image-lookup-feature-on-android/?noamp=mobile#respond Tue, 05 Nov 2024 12:26:06 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/05/whatsapp-begins-testing-search-on-web-image-lookup-feature-on-android/

WhatsApp has begun testing a feature that will allow users to quickly look up an image they have received from another user, with a couple of taps. The messaging platform has rolled out a new feature to beta testers that will adds a reverse image lookup feature for images in chats, which could help users identify manipulated media. At the moment, the feature is only available to beta testers on Android, but it is expected to be roll out to all users in the future.

WhatsApp Tests ‘Search on Web’ Image Lookup Feature on Latest Beta for Android

With the latest update to WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.23.13 (via feature tracker WABetaInfo), beta testers will be able to access a new feature in the media viewer that is displayed when an image is opened inside a chat. The new feature performs a reverse image search, after asking for user confirmation to upload the image.

In order to try out the feature, users will need to install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android, then open a chat and select an image. They can tap on the three-dot menu at the top of the screen, then tap Search on web > Search. However, the feature appears to be enabled by a server-side update, as Gadgets 360 staff members were unable to test the feature even after updating to the latest beta version.

Unlike recent cosmetic updates to WhatsApp for Android, the new image lookup feature is a powerful tool to quickly determine the source of an image. With a couple of taps, users can identify identical or similar images posted online, or check to see if they have received images that have been modified or altered — tactics users to spread misinformation.

The feature does rely on Google’s reverse image search function, so it’s worth noting that WhatsApp will allow users to access it at their discretion. The Meta-owned messaging platform also says that it does not have access to images before, during, or after it is sent to Google for processing. The reverse image lookup feature is available to some beta testers, and it is expected to roll out to all users at a later date.

WhatsApp for Android Reportedly Testing Snapchat-Like Camera Effects With Filters and Backgrounds https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/22/whatsapp-for-android-reportedly-testing-snapchat-like-camera-effects-with-filters-and-backgrounds/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/22/whatsapp-for-android-reportedly-testing-snapchat-like-camera-effects-with-filters-and-backgrounds/?noamp=mobile#respond Tue, 22 Oct 2024 13:36:19 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/22/whatsapp-for-android-reportedly-testing-snapchat-like-camera-effects-with-filters-and-backgrounds/

WhatsApp for Android might be getting a new feature which will make video calls and capturing images within the app more fun. As per a feature tracker, the instant messaging platform is testing camera effects. The new feature is said to add filters, backgrounds, and other effects to users’ faces when capturing an image or during video calls. While some of the effects can reportedly be activated manually, others are said to be triggered automatically based on expressions and gestures.

WhatsApp Camera Effects Feature

According to the WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo report, the feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.22.10 which is currently available on the Play Store. The feature is said to be visible in the beta version but is available to only a few beta testers currently.

Based on the screenshots shared by the feature tracker, the new feature can be turned on or off from the app’s Privacy settings. A new option dubbed Allow camera effects can be seen within the settings which can be toggled on or off. A description of the feature highlights, “To provide a more expressive experience, some effects will mimic your face and hands.”

The description also states that the feature is available when the camera is used to click pictures or during video calls. The feature tracker reveals that some of these effects can be applied automatically based on users’ facial expressions, hand gestures, movements, and more. Others are said to be applied manually using options visible on the display.

While the feature is said to be controlled from the privacy settings, it can also be activated or disabled directly from the camera screen and video call interface, allowing users an easy way to access the effects. The feature tracker also highlighted that the camera effects do not compromise any encryption protocols and even when turned on, the video calls remain end-to-end encrypted.

While the WhatsApp feature is currently available to some beta testers, it is currently not known when camera effects might be rolled out to a wider user base.

WhatsApp Adds Private Mentions and Likes to Its Status Feature https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/04/whatsapp-adds-private-mentions-and-likes-to-its-status-feature/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/04/whatsapp-adds-private-mentions-and-likes-to-its-status-feature/?noamp=mobile#respond Fri, 04 Oct 2024 08:48:13 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/04/whatsapp-adds-private-mentions-and-likes-to-its-status-feature/

WhatsApp has introduced a new set of features for status updates. The Meta-owned instant messaging platform is rolling out new status likes and private mentions features for Android and iOS users. Likes on Status is a new way to acknowledge a contact’s status update by tapping the heart emoji. With private mentions, users can now mention and tag contacts in their status updates. People mentioned can reshare that status to their account, whereas the mention will remain hidden from others viewing the status. Similar features already exist on Facebook and Instagram.

WhatsApp Introduces Ability to Like Statuses, Mention Contacts

WhatsApp announced new updates to its Status feature via a blog post on Thursday. The messaging app is rolling out new Status likes and private mentions features for all users. With the like feature, users can like their contact’s status updates with a single tap and the heart emoji. This works similarly to liking Instagram stories.

Status likes are private and don’t have a counter. Only the person who shared the status can see who has liked it in the list of viewers.

WhatsApp’s new Private mentions allows users to privately mention and tag their contacts in their status. The tagged contacts can also reshare it easily with their audience. This feature works similarly to tagging friends on Facebook and Instagram stories. The private mentions on WhatsApp will be hidden and won’t be shown on the status.

The new WhatsApp status features are rolling out and will soon be available to users worldwide. WhatsApp confirmed that it will bring more features to the Status and the Updates tab over the next few months.
