OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R are getting the OxygenOS 15 open beta update in India. The two phones are the first in the entire OnePlus lineup to get the Android 15-based operating system (OS) update. The new OS update will introduce a redesigned user interface, artificial intelligence (AI) features, and faster processing. It also integrates Android’s new security features such as Google Play Protect’s live threat detection and theft protection. Apart from that, the update will also add Gemini AI assistant as the default virtual assistant to compatible handsets.

In separate community posts, the Chinese brand announced that the open beta update was coming only to India at the current stage. The company said it will allow users to experience the new OS. However, it is also advised that since it is an open beta version, some features may not be available right away. Additionally, the version might not be stable as it is a beta build. Those who install it should accept the potential risks, the company added.

The OxygenOS 15 update offers faster performance, enhanced design, and AI capabilities. The OS update adds comprehensive “interruption animations” that enable faster transition between apps. This is aimed at eliminating lag times even during heavy usage. The update is also adding new AI-powered camera features. One such feature is AI Detail Boost which transforms low-resolution or cropped images into 4K resolution photos.

Another such feature is AI Unblur. It improves blurry images natively and makes the photos sharper. Additionally, AI Reflection Eraser allows users to remove reflections from images which are shot through glass.

While these features are powered by the company’s in-house AI models, OnePlus is also adding several Gemini-powered features. One of these is Circle to Search, which will now be available to compatible smartphones with the OxygenOS 15 update. Gemini will also power a new Pass Scan feature which is integrated within the camera app. It can be used to quickly scan boarding passes.

OnePlus 13 is expected to debut in China sometime this month as the successor to the OnePlus 12, which launched globally earlier this year. Ahead of its anticipated debut, extensive details about the purported smartphone’s display have been leaked by a tipster. It is suggested to be equipped with a BOE X2 panel with a 2K resolution, corroborating previous official teasers by the Chinese smartphone maker. The screen may also get additional features, including those for enhancing the security of the device.

This information comes from tipster Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) via a post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. OnePlus 13 is suggested to get a BOE X2 “oriental” display with a 2K resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It is said to be an 8T LTPO panel which may have a “super ceramic glass” structure. The former information was also teased by OnePlus China head Louis Lee earlier this month.

As per the tipster, the OnePlus 13 may have an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor embedded within the display and may support features like super eye protection and soft edge four-level depth.

The display’s circuitry is claimed to have been redesigned and its optical cavity structure recustomised. This move may have a positive effect on the handset’s brightness and battery life. Responding to a user comment, the tipster also suggested that the OnePlus 13 will bring a new solution for Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) dimming.

Previous leaks corroborate that the OnePlus 13 may be equipped with a 6.82-inch 2K 10-bit LTPO BOE X2 micro quad curved OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it may be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, dubbed Snapdragon 8 Elite, coupled with up to 24GB of RAM and up to 1TB of in-built storage. For optics, the purported handset could come with a triple rear camera unit, comprising a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 primary camera, a 50-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide lens, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom capability.

The OnePlus 13 may be backed by a 6,000mAh battery with 100W wired fast charging support.

OnePlus 13 will be launched in China later this month and a top company official recently teased the frontal photo of the phone.  As we wait for the formal launch date, a tipster claims that the OnePlus 13 will receive a significant battery upgrade compared to its predecessor. It is said to retain the fast-charging capabilities of its predecessor, with support for 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. The OnePlus 13 is likely to run on Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. It could get a 6.8-inch screen with 2K resolution.

Tipster Yogesh Brar (@heyitsyogesh) claims that the OnePlus 13 will be equipped with a 6,000mAh battery. The OnePlus 12 came with a 5,400mAh battery, which would mean the upcoming handset will arrive with a significant battery upgrade. In August, a Chinese tipster first claimed that the OnePlus 13 would be equipped with a 6,000mAh battery. 

Additionally, the OnePlus 13 is tipped to support 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. The OnePlus 12 also supports the same charging speed and is claimed to charge the handset’s battery from zero to 100 percent in around 37 minutes. The new leak corroborates previous claims related tot the handset’s charging capabilities. 

The rumoured 6,000mAh battery upgrade is not only large for a OnePlus phone but would be a battery capacity upgrade compared to other flagships including Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, that are equipped with 5,000mAh and 5,060mAh batteries, respectively.
