Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 : In a significant political shift, Shaina NC, a prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson, has been included in the Shiv Sena’s third list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. She will contest from the Mumbadevi seat in Mumbai, a stronghold of the Congress party.

Entering politics in 2004, Shaina NC joined the BJP, where she has served as national spokesperson, member of the national executive council, and treasurer of the BJP’s Maharashtra unit.
She is also recognised for her social initiatives through charity fashion shows and two NGOs: ‘I Love Mumbai’ and ‘Giants Welfare Foundation’.
Shaina NC used to hold the Guinness Book of world record for draping a saree (sari) in fifty-four different ways. It was taken over by Dolly Jain, who now holds the world record of draping a saree in 325 styles.

Maharashtra Election: Mumbadevi Contest

In the Mumbadevi constituency, Shaina NC will face off against incumbent Congress MLA Amin Patel, who has represented the area since 2009. While Shaina NC has switched parties, she remains aligned with the Mahayuti alliance for the elections scheduled for November 20.

Maharashtra Polls: Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena announces 3rd list

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, leading the Shiv Sena, announced the latest list of candidates, which includes Sanjana Jadhav, the daughter of former Union minister and BJP leader Raosaheb Danve. Jadhav will contest from Kannad in Aurangabad district, currently held by Udaysing Rajput of the Shiv Sena (UBT), led by former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

The third list of candidates was released just before the nomination deadline, with the Shiv Sena being part of the ruling Mahayuti coalition, which includes the BJP and the NCP, led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Out of the 15 seats announced, two have been allocated to regional allies of the BJP-led NDA, namely Jansurajya Paksh and the Rajarshi Shahu Vikas Aghadi.

As the state prepares for the crucial elections, Shaina NC’s entry into the fray marks a notable development in Maharashtra’s political landscape. Polling for the 288-member assembly will take place on November 20, with results set to be announced three days later.

Bandra Terminus Stampede: On Sunday, chaos erupted at Bandra railway station in Mumbai when a stampede occurred as passengers hurried to board the Gorakhpur-bound Antyodaya Express. Hitting out at Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader said, “Wish the reel minister was a rail minister for once. The incident at Bandra only reflects how incapable the current Railways Minister is.”

Reports indicate that nine people were injured during the incident, highlighting ongoing concerns about passenger safety during peak travel times.

Aaditya Thackeray seized the opportunity to criticise Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, stating, “The incident at Bandra only reflects how incapable the current Railways Minister is.” Thackeray further mocked the minister’s focus on promotional activities, suggesting, “Wish the reel minister was a rail minister for once.”

“The BJP has made Ashwini Vaishnav ji, a prabhari for BJP Maharashtra for elections, but every week there are some incidents and accidents that occur with the railways. Such a shame that our country has been forced under such incapable ministers.” Thackeray added.

Thackeray’s sentiments were echoed by MP Sanjay Raut, who accused Vaishnaw of prioritising the bullet train project over the safety of Mumbai passengers. He lamented, “Passengers in Mumbai are being ignored” amidst the ongoing railway incidents.

Bandra Terminus Stampede: Details of the Incident

The stampede took place around 2:45 AM on platform number one as passengers attempted to board the moving train, which was slowly making its way from the Bandra Terminus yard to the platform. According to the Western Railway, “During this time, some passengers on the platform attempted to board the moving train, leading to an accident where two passengers fell and got injured.”

Despite the Western Railway reporting only two injuries, local authorities, including the Mumbai disaster control cell, confirmed that nine individuals suffered injuries during the rush.

Bandra Terminus Stampede: Injuries and Ongoing Treatment

Among those injured are Shabhir Abdul Rehman (40), Parmeshwar Sukhdar Gupta (28), Ravindra Harihar Chuma (30), Ramsevak Ravindra Prasad Prajapati (29), Sanjay Tilakram Kangay (27), Divyanshu Yogendra Yadav (18), Mohammad Shareef Shaikh (25), Indrajith Sahani (19), and Noor Mohammad Shaikh (18). Reports indicate that Sahani and Noor Mohammad Sheikh are in critical condition and receiving treatment at Bhabha Hospital.

Bandra Terminus Stampede: Safety Warnings and Festival Travel

In light of the incident and the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals, the Western Railway is operating over 130 special trains to accommodate the surge in passenger numbers, especially towards Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

However, the railway authorities have urged travellers to adhere to safety protocols: “Passengers are advised not to board or alight from moving trains, as it is dangerous.”

Centre wants no inland waterway terminals near major ports, cites ‘economic interests’

New Delhi: The government plans to restrict development of inland waterway terminals (IWTs) near major ports to protect the economic interests of these ports. From now on, such development will need a no-objection certificate (NoC) from the major port authority involved.

The plan is to expedite the development of IWTs, which are important riverine arteries for inland shipping and navigation, but also ensure that they complement seaports rather than compete with them, officials in the ministry of ports, shipping and waterways said.

The change has been introduced in a new regulation for the development of IWTs along national waterways. India is developing 111 national waterway (NW) systems covering over 20,000km—only five of them are operational, while 106 were added in 2016.

There are around 50 IWTs at the moment, but as the new approved waterways are readied for cargo handling, many more terminals will be needed.

Several of the upcoming and some of the existing NWs touch the country’s 12 major ports. For instance, NW1 on the Ganges touches Haldia port in West Bengal, while NW3 is close to the major port at Kochi in Kerala.

The other major ports are Paradip, Kandla, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Mormugao, Mangalore, Mumbai, Tuticorin, Chennai, Thoothukkudi and Visakhapatnam.

According to regulations issued by the ministry this week, no NoC shall be granted by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) for development of a terminal within “the limits” of major ports—an area of operation in the sea or the route that is used by ships to dock in and move out from the port.

The new regulations make it mandatory for all existing IWTs to also seek NoCs from the IWAI within a specified period of time.

To protect the interest of existing IWTs set up by the IWAI, the regulation has also stopped new IWTs from being developed within the notified exclusivity zone, i.e. within a specified distance from the existing IWT.

Such exclusivity zones will be notified by the IWAI with the approval of the board of IWAI within 60 days of publication of the new regulations.

An NoC will be granted for a period of five years, by when the IWTs have to become operational. Any delay in operationalizing IWTs beyond five years would face cancellation of the NOC.

“The regulations clarify various issues that were considered impediments for development of infrastructure along national waterway network. The government should look at further incentives for infrastructure development along inland waterways channels to make these critical navigation arteries realize their true potential,” said an official of the terminal development entity on condition of anonymity.

The IWT development programme seeks to promote waterway systems for movement of both goods and passengers. Since 2013-14, the volume of cargo transported through inland waterways has seen an exponential rise, with total traffic increasing from 29.16 million tonnes (mt) in fiscal year 2014-15 (FY15) to 133.03 mt in FY24, a compound annual growth rate of 18.07% and representing a more than sixfold increase compared to FY14.

Under targets set by the Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, the government aims to boost cargo traffic to 200 mt by 2030 and 500 mt by 2047.

Swiggy Delivers 11,000 Vada Pavs In One Single Order, Sets Guinness World Record

Online food ordering and delivery company Swiggy has set a new Guinness World Record in collaboration with actor Ajay Devgn and director Rohit Shetty. The new record has been made for delivering the largest vada pav order – 11,000 vada pavs – in a single delivery. The order was delivered using Swiggy’s newly launched XL EVs for bulk deliveries. The vada pavs were delivered to children from the Robin Hood Army, an NGO that focuses on fighting hunger through surplus food distribution across multiple locations in Mumbai.

Mumbai’s iconic vada pavs were delivered by MM Mithaiwala, who collaborated with the upcoming film ‘Singham Again‘ team. Swiggy XL, a fleet of electric vehicles introduced to efficiently handle high-volume orders, played an instrumental role in achieving this Guinness World Record.

The first stop was Airport High School and Junior College in Vile Parle, where Ajay Devgn, Rohit Shetty and Swiggy Co-founder Phani Kishan received the order, creating a Guinness World Record for the largest number of Vada pavs delivered in a single order. The vada pavs were distributed across Robin Hood Army-supported schools in Bandra, Juhu, Andheri East (Chandivali and Chakala), Malad, and Borivali.

Phani Kishan, Co-founder and Chief Growth Officer, Swiggy said, “In the 10 years of Swiggy, we have delivered millions of vada pavs across Mumbai, and other cities. We’re going XL by teaming up with ‘Singham Again’ to set a Guinness World Record for the largest single food order for vada pavs. This exciting event perfectly captures Swiggy’s commitment to delivering food whether big or small-and celebrates the love for Mumbai’s iconic street food in a truly spectacular Singham style.”

पटाखों के शोर में दबाई गोलियों की आवाज, हमलावरों ने बाबा सिद्दीकी की हत्या को ऐसे दिया अंजाम

NCP नेता बाबा सिद्दीकी की मुंबई में गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी गई है. बताया जा रहा है कि बाबा सिद्दीकी पर 5 राउंड फायर किए गए, इसमें तीन गोलियां बाबा सिद्दीकी को लगीं. बाबा सिद्दीकी शनिवार की शाम निर्मल नगर स्थित अपने ऑफिस में बैठे थे, जब वह ऑफिस से बाहर निकले और गाड़ी में बैठे, तभी पटाखे चलने की आवाज आई. पटाखे की आवाज के बीच हमलावरों ने उन पर ताबड़तोड़ गोलियां बरसा दीं.

जानकारी के मुताबिक बाबा सिद्दीकी 9.15 से 9.20 मिनट के बीच ऑफिस से निकले थे, वह अपने ऑफिस के पास पटाखे फोड़ रहे थे, तभी अचानक गाड़ी से तीन लोग उतरे. ये तीनों हमलावर अपने चेहरे पर रूमाल बांधे हुए थे. इसके बाद उन्होंने बाबा सिद्दीकी पर फायरिंग की. एक गोली बाबा सिद्दीकी के सीने में लगी. गोली लगते ही वह गिर पड़े. इसके बाद लोगों ने उन्हें तुरंत लीलावती अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया. सूचना मिलते ही पुलिस मौके पर पहुंची. पुलिस ने 2 संदिग्धों को हिरासत में लिया है. पुलिस का कहना है जल्द ही तीसरे संदिग्ध को भी हिरासत में लिया जाएगा.हिरासत में लिए गए दोनों संदिग्ध महाराष्ट्र से बाहर के हैं, एक यूपी से और एक हरियाणा का रहने वाला है. एक और वांछित संदिग्ध फरार है.

इस घटना के बाद डिप्टी सीएम देवेंद्र फडणवीस लीलावती अस्पताल पहुंचे, जहां उन्होंने घटना का जायजा लिया. उन्होंने कहा कि हम कड़ी कार्रवाई करेंगे, अपराधियों को छोड़ा नहीं जाएगा. वहीं डिप्टी सीएम अजित पवार ने अपने कल के सभी कार्यक्रम रद्द कर दिए हैं.

महाराष्ट्र के पूर्व मंत्री बाबा सिद्दीकी ने इसी साल कांग्रेस पार्टी से इस्तीफा दिया था,करीब 48 साल तक कांग्रेस का सदस्य रहने के बाद उन्होंने पार्टी छोड़ी थी. उनके इस फैसले ने सबको चौंका दिया था. इस्तीफा देने बाद उन्होंने कहा था कि ऐसा बहुत कुछ है, जिसे वह व्यक्त करना चाहेंगे, लेकिन जैसा कि कहा जाता है कि कुछ चीजें अनकही ही रह जाएं तो बेहतर है.

बांद्रा पश्चिम से तीन बार विधायक रहे बाबा सिद्दीकी पूर्व राज्य मंत्री (फूड एण्ड सिविल सप्लाइज) थे. वे महाराष्ट्र हाउसिंग एंड एरिया डेवलपमेंट अथॉरिटी के मुंबई डिवीजन के अध्यक्ष भी रह चुके थे. उन्होंने राजनीति की शुरुआत एक छात्र नेता के रूप में की थी और पहली बार बीएमसी में Corporator के रूप में चुने गए थे. बाबा सिद्दीकी 1999, 2004 और 2009 में बांद्रा पश्चिम से महाराष्ट्र विधानसभा का चुनाव जीते थे. हालांकि 2014 के विधानसभा चुनाव में उन्हें मुंबई बीजेपी अध्यक्ष आशीष शेलार के सामने हार का सामना करना पड़ा था.
