India’s richest person, Mukesh Ambani and his family never fail to impress people. After throwing a lavish three-day wedding for their youngest son Anant Ambaani and his wife Radhika Merchant, Mukesh Ambani’s wife Nita Ambani-led Reliance Foundation has taken the internet by storm. This time for their extravagant and thoughtful Diwali 2024 hamper for their business associates.
A video posted on social media by RJ Rajas Jain, who works at Radio City Kannada, has gone viral with roughly 4,000 likes and several comments. “Deepawali Hamper From @reliancefoundation Thank You Nita Ambani and Mukesh Ambani for this lovely hamper,” Rajas Jain’s post read on Instagram, which was posted along with the video.
In the viral video, he is seen unpacking a Diwali gift hamper sent by Reliance Foundation, which has a super premium packaging. It is packed with several beautiful gift items like a greeting card, table linen, diyas handcrafted by specially-abled artisans, dhoop, a packet of almonds, and even a silver idol of Ganesh ji! What caught our attention was that some gift items also had small images of the artisans printed on its cover– a sweet gesture that shows the attention to all the small details.

While many people have commented on the video, some have praised the Ambanis’ for their large-heartedness while others have compared Reliance Foundation’s Diwali 2024 hampers with the ones which they have received from their offices. “This clan never disappoints people!!! They will never forget their sanatani roots,” one user commented on the video, while another complained, “We got only Dry Fruits ka dabba.”
For the unversed, the Reliance Foundation was established by Mukesh Ambani in 2010 and it is led by his wife Nita Ambani. The Foundation
works in several fields like education, women empowerment, environment, and more.

Disney-Reliance Joint Venture Said to Stream Live Sports Only on Disney+ Hotstar https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/18/disney-reliance-joint-venture-said-to-stream-live-sports-only-on-disney-hotstar/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/18/disney-reliance-joint-venture-said-to-stream-live-sports-only-on-disney-hotstar/?noamp=mobile#respond Fri, 18 Oct 2024 13:25:01 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/18/disney-reliance-joint-venture-said-to-stream-live-sports-only-on-disney-hotstar/

All live sporting events streamed by the newly merged Disney-Reliance business in India, including popular Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket, will only be available on Disney’s Hotstar app, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The decision marks the first major integration of the businesses and signals billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance, which holds a majority of the new venture, doesn’t plan to shut the Disney platform, though it is unclear if Hotstar might be rebranded.

Disney declined to comment, while Reliance did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Disney and Reliance in February agreed a $8.5 billion (roughly Rs. 71,455 crore) merger of their media assets to create India’s biggest entertainment company, with a combined 120 TV channels and two streaming apps, but gave no details on how they would combine or operate after the deal.

Reliance’s JioCinema has the rights to IPL cricket, a money-spinner and among the most-streamed content, as well as to the Winter Olympics and Indian Super League football.

Hotstar has rights to the International Cricket Council’s tournaments in India, English Premier League soccer, and the domestic Pro Kabaddi League.

Hotstar head Sajith Sivanandan held a town-hall this week to tell staff of the decision to switch live sports streams from Reliance’s app, one of the sources said.

The decision was influenced by Hotstar’s better back-end technology for handling live content as well as serving targeted ads, the person said, adding Hotstar was aiming to complete the transition by January.

A second source said it was not clear how other entertainment content might be integrated, including whether the venture would continue to operate two apps or close one.

The merger was approved by India’s competition regulator in August after the companies offered concessions to ease worries about their grip on cricket broadcasting rights, including a commitment to not raise advertising rates unreasonably.

Hotstar has come to be known for its prowess in handling live content glitch-free in cricket-mad India, where it’s common for millions to watch events at the same time. It set a record concurrent viewership of 59 million during the finals of men’s cricket World Cup last year.

Government Says No Auction of Satellite Spectrum; Elon Musk Hails Decision https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/16/government-says-no-auction-of-satellite-spectrum-elon-musk-hails-decision/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/16/government-says-no-auction-of-satellite-spectrum-elon-musk-hails-decision/?noamp=mobile#respond Wed, 16 Oct 2024 07:59:33 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/16/government-says-no-auction-of-satellite-spectrum-elon-musk-hails-decision/

The government on Tuesday said it will allot spectrum for satellite broadband administratively and not via auction, hours after Elon Musk criticized the auction route being sought by rival billionaire Mukesh Ambani as “unprecedented”.

In what is seen as a battle between billionaires, the methodology of awarding spectrum for satellite services in India – a market set to grow 36% a year to reach $1.9 billion by 2030 – has been a contentious issue since last year.

Musk’s Starlink argues administrative allotment of licences is in line with a global trend, while India’s Reliance, led by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, says an auction is needed to ensure a level playing field and as there are no provisions in Indian law on how individuals can be provided satellite broadband services.

Telecoms Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said during a New Delhi event that the spectrum will be allocated administratively in line with Indian laws, and its pricing worked out by the telecom watchdog.

“If you do decide to auction it, then you will be doing something which is different from the rest of the world,” he said.

Musk was appreciative of the government’s decision, and said on social media platform X, “We will do our best to serve the people of India with Starlink”.

On Sunday, Reuters was first to report that Reliance had challenged the Indian telecom regulator’s consultation process that signals home satellite broadband spectrum should be allocated, not auctioned, calling for it to start again.

The minister’s comment will come as a shot in the arm for Musk, who following the Reuters story, wrote on X late on Monday that any decision to auction “would be unprecedented”.

“This spectrum was long designated by the ITU as shared spectrum for satellites,” Musk said, referring to the International Telecommunication Union, a U.N. agency for digital technology.

India is a member of the ITU and signatory to its treaty that regulates satellite spectrum and advocates that allocation must be done “rationally, efficiently and economically” as it is a “limited natural resource”.

Sunil Mittal, co-chair of global satellite group Eutelsat, which has partnered with India’s telecom operator Bharti Airtel, voiced support for the auction route on Tuesday.

“Satellite companies who have ambitions to come into urban areas, serving elite retail customers, just need to take the telecom licenses like everybody else… they need to buy the spectrum as telecom companies buy,” Mittal, who is also the chair of Airtel, said at the New Delhi event.

Earlier in 2023, both Eutelsat unit OneWeb and Airtel had voiced concerns about auctioning the spectrum in their submissions to the Indian government.

Musk’s Starlink and some global peers like Amazon’s Project Kuiper back an administrative allocation, saying spectrum is a natural resource that should be shared by companies.

New Delhi: Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance industries has once again secured the top spot on Forbes’ 2024 list of India’s 100 richest tycoons. This year marks a historic milestone, as the collective net worth of the country’s top 100 wealthiest individuals has crossed the trillion-dollar mark for the first time ever, showcasing the growing economic power of India’s business elite.

Mukesh Ambani recently announced bonus shares as a Diwali gift for Reliance investors. According to Forbes, he saw the second-largest gain in wealth over the past year, increasing by 27.5 billion dollars to reach 119.5 billion dollars. His current net worth is 108.3 billion dollars, placing him as the 13th richest person in the world.

The total wealth in 2024 of the top 100 individuals on the Forbes rich list hit a record of 1.1 trillion dollars, a 40 per cent jump from the 799 billion dollars in 2023. Forbes credits this impressive surge to the strong performance of the stock market, as investors poured money into IPOs and mutual funds.

Forbes highlighted that a strong stock market along with increased investments in IPOs and mutual funds has made the wealthy even richer in India. The market has reached a record high, with the BSE Sensex gaining 30 percent since last year. According to Forbes, “As a result, more than 80 percent of those on the list are wealthier, with 58 adding $1 billion or more to their respective net worths.”

Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, secured the second spot on the list with a combined family wealth of 116 billion dollars. Along with his brother Vinod Adani, they added 48 billion dollars to their fortune, making them the biggest dollar gainers of the year. This impressive rise follows a strong recovery after the Hindenburg report, which had earlier caused a sharp drop in the group’s market value.

Mukesh Ambani described Tata as “one of India’s most illustrious and kind-hearted sons.”

Ratan Tata passes away: The business world was left in mourning on Wednesday as news broke of the passing of Ratan Tata, a titan of Indian industry. The former chairman of the Tata Group, who had been instrumental in guiding the conglomerate to unprecedented success, died at the age of 86 in a hospital in Mumbai.
Tributes poured in from across the country, with Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, describing Tata as “one of India’s most illustrious and kind-hearted sons.”
Below is the full text of Mukesh Ambani’s statement on the passing away of Ratan Tata:
“It is a very sad day for India and India Inc.Ratan Tata’s passing away is a big loss, not just to the Tata Group, but to every Indian.
At a personal level, the passing of Ratan Tata has filled me with immense grief as I lost a dear friend. Each of my numerous interactions with him left me inspired and energised and enhanced my respect for the nobility of his character and the fine human values he embodied.
Ratan Tata was a visionary industrialist and a philanthropist, who always strove for society’s greater good.
With the demise of Mr Ratan Tata, India has lost one of her most illustrious and kind-hearted sons. Mr Tata took India to the world and brought the best of the world to Bharat. He institutionalised the House of Tata and made it an international enterprise growing the Tata group over 70 times since the time he took over as Chairman in 1991.
On behalf of Reliance, Nita and the Ambani family, I send my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved members of the Tata family and the entire Tata Group.
Ratan, you will always remain in my heart.
Om Shanti.
Mukesh Ambani”
Ratan Tata assumed leadership of Tata Sons in 1991, succeeding his uncle J.R.D. Tata, just as India initiated significant economic reforms that opened the country to global markets and catalyzed a period of substantial growth.

One of Ratan Tata’s initial actions was to assert control over the heads of Tata Group companies, implementing mandatory retirement ages, elevating younger individuals to leadership roles, and strengthening oversight of the various entities.
He established Tata Teleservices, a telecommunications company, in 1996 and led the initial public offering of Tata Consultancy Services, the group’s most profitable venture, in 2004. However, the group recognized that to achieve meaningful growth, it needed to expand beyond India’s borders.

In an interview with the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2013, he said, “It was the quest for growth and changing the ground rules to say that we could grow by acquisitions which earlier we had never done.”
The group acquired Tetley, a British tea company, for $432 million in 2000 and Corus, an Anglo-Dutch steelmaker, for $13 billion in 2007, which was, at the time, the largest acquisition of a foreign company by an Indian enterprise. In 2008, Tata Motors purchased the British luxury car brands Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford Motor Co for $2.3 billion.
Ratan Tata’s personal projects at Tata Motors included the Indica, the first car designed and manufactured entirely in India, and the Nano, which was promoted as the most affordable car in the world. He provided initial design sketches for both vehicles.
