Google Cloud announced a collaboration with DeliverHealth, a clinical documentation and digital health platform, on Thursday. The announcement was made at the Google Cloud Startup Summit 2024 India event in Bengaluru. The strategic partnership will combine the Mountain View-based tech giant’s Gemini AI models with the large data repository of the health tech platform. Alongside, Google Cloud also shared that it is expanding the role of AI and cloud technology in India’s startup ecosystem. The expansion is aimed at introducing AI innovation for Indian startups to spur accelerated growth cycles.

Google Cloud Partners With DeliverHealth

A large part of healthcare involves documenting patient journeys, starting from diagnosis and assessment to rehabilitation. The process involves noting down critical health information about patients which becomes the basis for treatment as well as follow-up visits. DeliverHealth already operates in the digital health space and offers solutions to clinics to digitize such information.

Now, with this collaboration with Google Cloud, the health tech platform will combine its repository with the Gemini 1.5 Pro AI models to co-develop unique solutions for healthcare institutions.

In a press release, the tech giant said that the Gemini AI model will be trained on DeliverHealth’s extensive repository of 1,50,000 hours a month of human-curated medical notes. With this training, the two entities will develop an AI model that uses medical vocabulary for speech recognition. It will also enable clinicians to use detailed medical language and natural language processing to document patient journeys.

This would enable doctors and other support staff to create accurate documents for the patient based on their conversations, Google claimed. One obvious benefit would be that doctors will be able to fully focus on patient care without worrying about the documentation process. They will also be able to easily access patient documents without having to run detailed searches of the repository.

“Our collaboration with DeliverHealth is a reflection of our shared commitment towards innovation through the transformative potential of GenAI by automating tedious tasks and improving efficiency and accuracy,” said Bikram Singh Bedi, Vice President and Country MD, Google Cloud India.

Google Gemini API, AI Studio Gets a ‘Grounding with Google Search’ Feature for Developers https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/01/google-gemini-api-ai-studio-gets-a-grounding-with-google-search-feature-for-developers/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/01/google-gemini-api-ai-studio-gets-a-grounding-with-google-search-feature-for-developers/?noamp=mobile#respond Fri, 01 Nov 2024 13:53:21 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/01/google-gemini-api-ai-studio-gets-a-grounding-with-google-search-feature-for-developers/

Google is adding a new feature to the Gemini application programming interface (API) and AI Studio to help developers ground the responses generated by artificial intelligence. Announced on Thursday, the feature dubbed Grounding with Google Search will allow developers to check the AI-generated responses against similar information available on the Internet. This way developers will be able to further fine-tune their AI apps and offer their users more accurate and up-to-date information. Google highlighted that such grounding methods are important for prompts that generate real-time information from the web.

Google Releases ‘Grounding With Google Search’ Feature

Google AI for Developers support page detailed the new feature which will be available on both the Gemini API as well as the Google AI Studio. Both of these tools are largely used by developers who are building mobile and desktop apps with AI capabilities.

However, generating responses from AI models can often result in hallucinations, which can negatively impact the credibility of the apps. The problem can be even more significant when the app delves into topics of current affairs, where the latest information from the web is required. While developers can manually fine-tune the AI model, without a guiding dataset, errors can still exist.

To solve this, Google is offering a new way to verify the output generated by AI. Known as grounding, this process connects an AI model to verifiable sources of information. Such sources contain high-quality information and add more context to the information. Some examples of these sources include documents, images, local databases, and the Internet.

Grounding with Google Search uses the last source to find verifiable information. Developers can now use top results from Google Search to compare the information returned by the Gemini AI models. The Mountain View-based tech giant claims that this exercise will improve the “accuracy, reliability, and usefulness of AI outputs.”

The method also helps AI models surpass their knowledge cut-off date by sourcing the information directly from the grounding source. So, in this case, Gemini models can get the latest information using the Search algorithm’s output.

Google also shared an example of the difference in outputs that were grounded vs those which were not grounded. An ungrounded response to the query “Who won the Super Bowl this year?” was “The Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVII this year (2023).”

However, after the Grounding with Google Search feature was used, the refined response was, “The Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII this year, defeating the San Francisco 49ers in overtime with a score of 25 to 22.” Notably, the feature only supports text-based outputs and cannot process multimodal responses.

Google Maps Gets Updated With Gemini-Powered Curated Inspirations, Improved Navigation and Immersive View https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/01/google-maps-gets-updated-with-gemini-powered-curated-inspirations-improved-navigation-and-immersive-view/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/01/google-maps-gets-updated-with-gemini-powered-curated-inspirations-improved-navigation-and-immersive-view/?noamp=mobile#respond Fri, 01 Nov 2024 12:00:52 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/11/01/google-maps-gets-updated-with-gemini-powered-curated-inspirations-improved-navigation-and-immersive-view/

Google Maps is getting several new artificial intelligence (AI) features powered by Gemini. Announced on Thursday, these features are aimed at offering more relevant information during navigation and showcasing curated inspirations that users can check to know more about the locality and what they can do. Additionally, Immersive View, which shows nearby structures as well as the weather while planning a trip, is also being expanded to 150 cities across the globe. These features are currently rolling out to the US, and are expected to be made available in more regions in the future.

Google Maps Gets New Gemini AI-Powered Features

In a blog post, the Mountain View-based tech giant detailed the new features coming to Google Maps. Google highlighted that today AI helps the company make more than 100 million updates to the map every single day, allowing users to see the most up-to-date information while travelling.

The first new feature is dubbed Inspirations. Users can now ask Google Maps about “things to do” in an area, and using Gemini AI models, it can curate the most relevant information. For instance, users can ask for “things to do with friends at night”, and Maps will show places with live music, special events, and more. These places are shown as separate cards, and if users have specific questions about the places such as if it is wheelchair accessible and if it is kid-friendly, they can ask Maps and get a relevant response.

Google said this feature will start rolling out to users in the US on Android and iOS this week. A similar feature will also be added to Search, along with the AI-powered review summaries and the ability to ask detailed questions about places.

Navigation is also being upgraded by Google. Maps will now show lanes, crosswalks, and road signs on the map to help users better navigate through unfamiliar routes. It will also show which lane the vehicle should be in to avoid hassles merging in at the last moment. To make the trips more fun, users, when planning a trip, can tap on add stops and see top landmarks, attractions, and dining options along the selected route. Enhanced navigation is being rolled out to 30 metro areas and will be expanded in the future.

Users will also be able to see and report weather disruptions such as flooded roads, low visibility, and unplowed roads. Further, the arrival guidance feature will now show nearby parking lots and remind users to save their parking so they do not forget the location of their vehicle. After parking, the navigation system will automatically show the walking direction from the car to the entrance.

Immersive View, the new AI experience that lets users see the route as they would appear in real life, is also getting an update. It will now show the weather and traffic conditions on the day and time the user is planning to visit. The feature is now being expanded to 150 cities globally. Immersive View for routes will also show where to park and if a complex turn is coming up.

This feature is rolling out this week on Android and iOS wherever Immersive View for routes is available.

Google Adds Gemini Team to DeepMind in AI Streamlining Push https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/18/google-adds-gemini-team-to-deepmind-in-ai-streamlining-push/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/18/google-adds-gemini-team-to-deepmind-in-ai-streamlining-push/?noamp=mobile#respond Fri, 18 Oct 2024 07:32:54 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/18/google-adds-gemini-team-to-deepmind-in-ai-streamlining-push/

Alphabet’s Google is moving the team behind its Gemini AI assistant app to its DeepMind research lab, continuing a plan to consolidate the company’s various groups working on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The search giant is simplifying its structure to “keep increasing the pace of progress” of AI development, Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai said in a blog post on Thursday. He also announced that Prabhakar Raghavan, the most senior leader of Google’s search and ads units, is leaving the role after four years helming the company’s flagship businesses. Raghavan will step into a new role as Google’s chief technologist, Pichai said.

Nick Fox, a veteran Google executive who acted as a search deputy under Raghavan, will step into the role leading the company’s search, ads, maps and shopping services.

Long the dominant search engine globally, Google has battled the perception for the last two years that it’s lagged behind the likes of Microsoft, OpenAI and other startups in rolling out new generative AI tools and services. Yet, as it works to stay competitive with new entrants upending search, it must also take care not to cannibalise its core profit machine. In his announcement, Pichai framed the reorganisation as a way to streamline the company’s progress in AI.

Over the last six months, Google has been consolidating its AI-focused teams, seeking to improve the Gemini models to challenge the likes of OpenAI and Anthropic. In April, the firm moved its models, research and responsible AI teams to the DeepMind division. Soon after, it merged DeepMind with Google Brain, a rival research unit within the company.

DeepMind was founded in London in 2010 as an academic-style research lab, then acquired by Google in 2014. Executives say the lab has recently shifted away from its original mission and become more product-driven.

Both inside and outside Google, “so many of the leading research labs are actually product companies at this point,” said Eli Collins, DeepMind’s vice president of product, in an interview with Bloomberg News last month. He said DeepMind has had to “pick up the pace” to keep up with the rate of AI innovation.

Google has also been challenged by mounting antitrust scrutiny from federal officials. In August, Google lost a trial over claims by the US Justice Department that the company illegally monopolises online search and advertising markets.

In September, a trial covering the company’s alleged dominance over the technology used to buy and sell online ads concluded, with closing arguments scheduled for November. A decision in that case is expected by the end of the year.

October Pixel Drop Brings New Features and Updates to Pixel Phones, Tablet and Watch https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/16/october-pixel-drop-brings-new-features-and-updates-to-pixel-phones-tablet-and-watch/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/16/october-pixel-drop-brings-new-features-and-updates-to-pixel-phones-tablet-and-watch/?noamp=mobile#respond Wed, 16 Oct 2024 11:34:57 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/10/16/october-pixel-drop-brings-new-features-and-updates-to-pixel-phones-tablet-and-watch/

Pixel device owners will definitely be busy discovering several new features thanks to the release of Android 15. However, Google’s latest October Pixel Drop brings even more features to new and recent devices. As usual, this quarterly update applies to several devices ranging from the Pixel 6 to latest Pixel 9 Pro Fold along with Google’s ecosystem products like the Pixel Watch and Buds series TWS earphones as well. It’s wise to keep in mind that while Google has added several features for older devices across the Pixel range, features like Gemini Live are only available on select devices, languages and countries.

Google’s October Pixel Drop) begins rollout today in a phased manner. If you don’t see it yet, don’t panic, it should show up soon.

Gemini Updates

For starters, Gemini Live is now more accessible if you own a pair of Pixel Buds. Google Pixel Buds Pro or A-series owners can now simply say “Hey Google, let’s talk” to start a conversation with the AI assistant via their earphones, which was recently made available for all Pixel users, free of charge. The regular Gemini assistant now also works with the Pixel Screenshots app letting you find things in your screenshots at the press of a button.

Updates for Pixel Phones

The Audio Magic Eraser tool that debuted with the Pixel 8 Pro last year and arrived in an “improved” form with the Pixel 9 series is now rolling out to Pixel 8 series smartphones. Pixel 9 series owners (except for the 9 Pro Fold of course) will now see improved photography and video recording with richer and more accurate colours.

Google claims to have added some major improvements to Astrophotography in Night Sight mode and it’s available for users from the Pixel 6 onwards. Night Sight also makes its way to Instagram letting Pixel owners snap Night Sight captures directly from the Instagram app.

The Temperature app available on the Pixel 8 Pro, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL models will now let you use the viewfinder as a guide to see what exactly you are pointing it at. Google also added themed recommendations for widgets in the form of widget categories (Social, Entertainment and more).

Updates for Pixel Watch and Tablets

All Pixel Watch owners can now set a new individual contact tile with quick actions to call, message or open a contact. Users can also send or react with emojis (for the Gmail app) directly from their Pixel Watch. Google’s Loss of Pulse Detection feature, which is available only on the Pixel Watch 3, is now available for users in Belgium, Italy and Spain.

It’s now easier to seamlessly transfer media (instead of using the cast icon) from Pixel Tablet or a Pixel 9 Pro Fold to a Pixel phone. A new feature will be arriving in the coming weeks, but it basically lets users cast media from one device to another by simply bringing a Pixel phone closer to a Pixel tablet. Pixel tablet users will also be happy to know that notifications will sync across their Pixel phone and tablet meaning that they simply need to dismiss a notification on one device and not two devices separately.
