iOS 18.2 will reportedly allow users to “trust” a new computer without entering their passcode. The next iOS update is expected to arrive in December, and Apple rolled out the second developer beta version earlier this week. Unlike iOS 18.1, which mostly added support for a couple of Apple Intelligence features on eligible iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers, the company is expected to introduce more features with the iOS 18.2 update next month, including the ability to share the location of lost items with trusted people and the ability to change focus and exposure lock on the Camera Control button.

iOS 18.2 to Let Users Trust New Computers Using Face ID on iPhone

Apple’s security feature that requires users to enter their PIN, passcode, or password to “trust” a new computer will soon become a lot easier to use, according to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by user Aaron Perris (via 9to5Mac). Apple will let users allow a new computer to access the data on the device after authenticating using Face ID.

It’s worth noting that the new functionality is currently limited to beta testers, and is expected to roll out to users next month. It comes more than a decade after Apple added support for the “Trust This Computer” feature to the iPhone, allowing users to decided which devices would have access to the information on their smartphone.

If a user chooses not to trust a computer, they will see the prompt every time they connect the phone to that device — this is also the case when an iPhone running on iOS 16 or later is connected to a trusted computer where local backup (not iCloud backup) is enabled, according to Apple’s support document.

Other iOS 18.2 Features Expected to Arrive in December

When iOS 18.2 rolls out to users next month, it is expected to bring new Apple Intelligence features that are already available to beta testers. These include the new Visual Intelligence (iPhone 16 models), ChatGPT (and ChatGPT Plus) support, Genmoji, and the Image Playground feature, while the Notes app will also get some AI-backed improvements. This is the second wave of Apple Intelligence features, following the release of iOS 18.1 last month that brought support for Writing Tools and AI-powered Focus modes.

For users who are less concerned about AI features — or don’t have an Apple Intelligence-compatible device — the iOS 18,2 update will also add support for sharing the location of lost items on Find My with airlines or trusted people. It will also upgrade the Camera Control on the iPhone 16 series with the ability to control focus and exposure lock. The icons for apps shown in the Settings app will also match the tint selected on the Home Screen on iOS 18.2.

Apple Reportedly Planning to Launch a Smart Home Display With homeOS Next Year https://thenewshub.in/2024/09/30/apple-reportedly-planning-to-launch-a-smart-home-display-with-homeos-next-year/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/09/30/apple-reportedly-planning-to-launch-a-smart-home-display-with-homeos-next-year/?noamp=mobile#respond Mon, 30 Sep 2024 07:41:06 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/09/30/apple-reportedly-planning-to-launch-a-smart-home-display-with-homeos-next-year/

Apple has been rumoured to be working on its smart home category for quite some time now. Now, a new report claims that the Cupertino-based tech giant might launch a new tabletop smart display device with smart home functionality next year. The device is said to be part of a series, where the higher-end variant will come with a robotic limb. The launch date for the more expensive device is currently not known. Both devices will reportedly be integrated with Apple Intelligence features.

Apple Smart Home Display

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claimed in his Power On newsletter that Apple is looking to enter the smart home segment with new devices. The company already has its HomePod in the segment, however, it has not seen much popularity. To reinvent the space, the tech giant is reportedly taking the help of robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and a new operating system.

According to the report, Apple is working on two tabletop devices, and each would feature a smart display. The high-end variant is said to come with a robotic limb whose purpose is currently unknown. It is also said to feature a giant iPad-like display.

The report mentioned more information about the lower-end device. The device is said to feature a smart display that can be used for FaceTime and controlling home appliances. The device reportedly has an internal code name of J595. It is not clear whether the device will also feature a robotic appendage.

As per Gurman, the device could be launched next year. However, it is not clear whether it will be introduced in early 2025 or later in the year. The price is said to be $1,000 (roughly Rs. 83,740) or more. The most interesting development is that Apple is reportedly working on a new operating system dubbed homeOS to run these devices and its existing smart home lineup including HomePod and HomePod mini. The basis for the OS is said to be tvOS, which powers the Apple TV.

Further, it is said that the new smart home devices with integrated displays will also feature Apple Intelligence. It is unclear how the tech giant wants to incorporate AI features into the device. However, the lower-end device is said to be able to run apps such as Calendar, Notes, and Home. The device will also be able to run smart home appliances and act as the central hub for it.

Apple’s HomePod With Touchscreen May Get a Square Display, A18 Chip and AI Features: Report https://thenewshub.in/2024/09/27/apples-homepod-with-touchscreen-may-get-a-square-display-a18-chip-and-ai-features-report/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/09/27/apples-homepod-with-touchscreen-may-get-a-square-display-a18-chip-and-ai-features-report/?noamp=mobile#respond Fri, 27 Sep 2024 14:07:50 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/09/27/apples-homepod-with-touchscreen-may-get-a-square-display-a18-chip-and-ai-features-report/

Apple has been speculated to be developing a new type of product — a home accessory that will run on a software variant of tvOS and will sport a touch display on top. According to a new report, this purported device may have artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities courtesy of Apple’s latest A18 processor. It may also include support for hand gestures, FaceTime, and other video conferencing platforms, helped in-built cameras on the device.

Apple HomePod With Touchscreen Features (Expected)

According to a 9to5Mac report, the purported device carries an identifier “HomeAccessory”. This leak corroborates a previous report which also hinted at a code discovered at Apple’s backend that referenced a new identifier category “HomeAccessory17,1”. It is reportedly codenamed J490.

Apple’s rumoured in-development device may be powered by an A18 chipset which also powers the new iPhone 16 series. As a result, it is speculated to have support for Apple Intelligence – the company’s suite of AI features for iPhone, iPad, and other devices. If this comes to fruition, it would be the first Apple HomePod device to do so.

In addition to AI capabilities, the purported HomePod with touchscreen is also said to feature a square display rather than a rectangular one which is commonly seen on tablets. The screen could reportedly come with a customisable lock screen with multiple clock faces, similar to the Apple TV interface. Notably, references for a customisable lock screen with touchscreen support were reported to be discovered in a tvOS beta update.

The report suggests it may also have an in-built camera that would support video conferencing apps like FaceTime and others. With this camera, the device would reportedly be able to recognise hand gestures which may be used to control it.

Additionally, it is also speculated to enable user identification, allowing them to make personal requests — a feature that already exists on the HomePod and can be used with voice commands. It may also have media playback capabilities and could also work as an AirPlay receiver, the report adds.

Apple Releases macOS Sequoia, iPadOS 18, watchOS 11 and tvOS 18 for Eligible Devices: How to Download https://thenewshub.in/2024/09/17/apple-releases-macos-sequoia-ipados-18-watchos-11-and-tvos-18-for-eligible-devices-how-to-download/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/09/17/apple-releases-macos-sequoia-ipados-18-watchos-11-and-tvos-18-for-eligible-devices-how-to-download/?noamp=mobile#respond Tue, 17 Sep 2024 06:48:52 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/09/17/apple-releases-macos-sequoia-ipados-18-watchos-11-and-tvos-18-for-eligible-devices-how-to-download/

Apple has rolled out macOS Sequoia as its latest software updates for supported Mac computers, along with iPadOS 18, watchOS 11 and tvOS 18. These updates introduce new features and customisation options on Apple’s devices, while future updates will add support for Apple Intelligence — new features that are powered by artificial intelligence (AI) on the iPhone 15 Pro models, the new iPhone 16 lineup, and select tablets and Mac models with Apple’s M-series chipsets. These software updates were first shown off at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2024).

Here are some of the most notable changes on macOS Sequoia, iOS 18, watchOS 11, tvOS 18, and visionOS 2. You can update eligible devices to these software versions, but it’s better to back up important data before installing major operating system updates. You can also read more about Apple’s iOS 18 update that is rolling out to eligible smartphones.

macOS Sequoia

After updating to macOS Sequoia, users can access a new iPhone Mirroring feature that allows them to control and use their smartphone from their computer. macOS finally supports window tiling via drag controls, eliminating the need for third party apps. Safari has been updated with a new reader mode and the ability to show relevant information about locations and media while browsing.

The company has also introduced support for Apple Pay on third party browsers with macOS Sequoia, while Game Porting Toolkit 2 is expected to enable users to play more games designed for Windows. Mac users can also mirror their iPhone notifications, while taking advantages of updates to the Messages app like text effects, message scheduling, and emoji reactions on messages.

iPadOS 18 and tvOS 18

Just like iOS 18, Apple has included support for customisation with a redesigned control center, tinted icons and widgets on the home screen. Users will also be able to access the new Messages features that are available on macOS, while Game Mode is now available on iPadOS 18 with relevant optimisations while games are running. Smart Script is available in the Notes app, along with collapsible sections. Using an Apple Pencil to solve problems in Math Notes is also accessible via the Calculator and Notes app.

Meanwhile, Apple has introduced support for 21:9 video format with the latest tvOS 18 update, along with support for on device Siri. Users can also access new screen savers on Apple TV, using portrait images in their iCloud library. tvOS 18 also adds support for robot vacuums in the Home app, as well as guest access for specific devices, the ability to monitor home electricity usage, and handsfree unlocking using ultra-wideband (UWB) locks.

watchOS 11

A new Vitals app on watchOS 11 will allow users to see insights based on their recent health metrics, while a new Training Load feature lets them know when they are overreaching on their fitness activities. The update also adds support for interactive widgets, along with an improved smart stack with Live Activities.

watchOS 11 also improves the Photos watch face, according to Apple. Users will be able to access the Check In security feature from their smartwatch, while the Translate app will come in handy while traveling. Apple Watch Series 10 owners will also get access to Sleep Apnea tracking in 150 countries and regions, according to the company.

visionOS 2

The Apple Vision Pro has only been available for a few months — it first went on sale in the US earlier this year — but the company has already released the first major software update for the spatial computer. The device now lets users capture or create spatial photos that can be viewed on the headset. Meanwhile, the home view (or home screen) can finally be rearranged on visionOS 2.

Users will also have access to new gestures on the Vision Pro, while SharePlay for photos has been added along with support for using a connected mouse. Developers will be able to access new Volumetric APIs, Enterprise APIs, and TableTopKit to build more capabilities into their apps for the Apple Vision Pro that will be supported on visionOS 2.

How to Update Your Devices

It’s always a good idea to back up important data before you install a major software update. Once you’ve done that, you can follow the steps below to update your Mac computer, Apple Watch, or iPad to macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, and iPadOS 18, respectively.

How to Update to macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, and iPadOS 18

  1. Tap on General > Software Update. Apple Watch users can initiate the update via the Watch app on iOS.

  2. Tap on Upgrade to iOS 18 button at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Enter your device passcode (or user account password on macOS).

  4. Agree to Apple’s software terms and conditions.

  5. Wait for the software update to download and your device will reboot once the process is complete.

Apple May Be Developing a HomePod with Touchscreen Powered by Apple Intelligence: Report https://thenewshub.in/2024/07/05/apple-may-be-developing-a-homepod-with-touchscreen-powered-by-apple-intelligence-report/ https://thenewshub.in/2024/07/05/apple-may-be-developing-a-homepod-with-touchscreen-powered-by-apple-intelligence-report/?noamp=mobile#respond Fri, 05 Jul 2024 05:31:21 +0000 https://thenewshub.in/2024/07/05/apple-may-be-developing-a-homepod-with-touchscreen-powered-by-apple-intelligence-report/

Apple is said to be developing a new product – a home accessory that will run on a software variant of tvOS, according to a report. It is said to be a touchscreen version of the HomePod with displays and cameras, one which has long been rumoured to be in development. The device is speculated to be powered by Apple Intelligence – the iPhone maker’s suite of artificial intelligence (AI) services that it introduced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 on June 10.

New HomePod

In a report, MacRumors revealed that it had discovered a code in Apple’s backend that references a new identifier category “HomeAccessory17,1”, which is speculated to be a HomePod with a touchscreen display. This suggests that the device may be powered by the A18 chip – the same SoC which is also rumoured to power the entire upcoming iPhone 16 lineup.

Courtesy of this chipset, the device may get Apple Intelligence features. As per the report, this “home accessory” is speculated to run on a variant of tvOS, the operating system of Apple TV. The new OS may be named homeOS, the reference of which was previously said to be discovered in a tvOS 17.4 beta which was released in January.

In April, a tipster with the username Kosutami (@Kosutami_Ito) leaked an image of the display cover of the rumoured upcoming HomePod, suggesting that the device may have a touchscreen LCD screen surrounded by the speaker. It is speculated to display information – such as media playback controls and incoming notifications.

This development builds upon the prediction by TF Securities International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who suggested that the Cupertino-based tech giant may launch a HomePod with a 7-inch touchscreen display in 2024. It was theorised to compete against devices such as Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub. At the time, Kuo said that Tianma would be the sole supplier of the purported HomePod. While it was speculated to come out in H1 2024, Apple has not released any similar device so far.

However, there are two Apple events still planned for the year, and the rumoured touchscreen HomePod may yet still launch this year.
