We still get a lot of [liquified natural gas] from Russia, and why not replace it by American LNG, which is cheaper for us and brings down our energy prices, says Ursula von der Leyen.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said the EU wants to start buying gas from the United States and not Russia. The comments come days after Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election.

“We still get a lot of [liquified natural gas] from Russia, and why not replace it by American LNG, which is cheaper for us and brings down our energy prices,” said Ursula von der Leyen.

But, it is something where we can get into a discussion also what our trade deficit is concerned, she added.

47th President-Elect Donald Trump has repeatedly promised to end the Russia-Ukraine war before he takes up the Oval Office, and has even spoken to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. With few details emerging from Trump himself, details of a purported plan have surfaced that can alter the course of the war.
