International Chefs Day History

International Chefs Day was founded in 2004 by Dr Bill Gallagher, a well-known master chef and former president of the World Association of Chefs Societies (Worldchefs).

In the first century AD, a Roman gourmet named Marcus Apicius set a seminal milestone in culinary history by authoring the world’s first known cookbook, “Apicius” or “The Art of Cooking”. It was a groundbreaking compilation including over 400 recipes, showcasing Apicius’s dedication to ingredient quality and safety.

Later in 1765, A. Boulanger revolutionized dining by opening Paris’s inaugural eating establishment, aptly named “Restaurant.” Hence, the term “restaurant” was coined, which is now synonymous with public eateries.

International Chefs Day Significance
