Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam has expressed his admiration for veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket.

Ashwin made the surprising decision after the rain-affected third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Brisbane ended in a draw.

During the post-match press conference, the 38-year-old spinner reflected on his remarkable career, saying, “It has been an incredible ride, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to represent my country at the highest level.”

Babar, currently leading Pakistan in their all-format series against South Africa, took to Instagram to honor Ashwin’s achievements.

“Congratulations on an incredible career, Ravichandran Ashwin,” wrote Babar, highlighting the camaraderie and respect shared among top cricketers.

Ashwin bows out of international cricket as one of India’s greatest bowlers. Over 106 Test matches, he claimed 537 wickets at an exceptional average of 24, making him India’s second-highest wicket-taker in the format, only behind the legendary Anil Kumble, who holds 619 wickets in 132 Tests.

A highly capable all-rounder, Ashwin also scored 3503 runs in Tests, including six centuries and 14 half-centuries.

This feat places him among an elite group of 11 cricketers to achieve the double milestone of 3000+ runs and 300+ wickets in Test cricket.

Ashwin’s brilliance extended to white-ball cricket as well, where he featured in 116 ODIs and 65 T20Is, picking up 156 and 72 wickets, respectively.

Known for his intelligence and ability to adapt across formats, Ashwin leaves behind a legacy that will inspire generations.

As Ashwin steps into a new chapter of his life, the cricketing world continues to celebrate his contributions.

Meanwhile, Babar and the Pakistan team remain focused on their ongoing series in South Africa, with their next match set to take place on 22 December in Johannesburg.
