Viduthalai 2 X review: Fans praise Vijay Sethupathi, say 'national award loading'

Vijay Sethupathi’s Viduthalai Part 2 released in theatres on December 20. The Tamil period crime thriller directed by Vetri Maaran is a sequel to 2023’s Viduthalai Part 1. The movie has been receiving mixed reviews from fans where they termed it Vetri Maaran‘s cult classic’.

The film continues the two-part adaptation of Jeyamohan’s short story Thunaivan, delving deeper into the intense clash between a police constable and a separatist group leader. The star-studded cast includes Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Bhavani Sre, and Rajiv Menon reprising their roles, while Manju Warrier, Kishore, and Anurag Kashyap join the ensemble for the sequel.

Vijay Sethupathi’s movie has garnered rave reviews from fans and followers who were waiting to watch the actor back in action on the big screen. While there were some who were impressed by the ‘banger screenplay’, others were in love with the actor’s powerful action sequences.

One of the X users wrote, “Viduthalai part 2 with the banger screenplay, political satire movie, positive reviews for Vetri – VJS – Soori combo (sic),” while another wrote, “A VETRIMARAN ‘S CULT CLASSIC Film. Witnessed #VijaySethupathi ‘s Another Shade in #Viduthalai2, What a PERFORMER… He is #VetriMaaran climax peak (sic).” A third user chimed in and wrote, “A VETRIMARAN ‘S CULT CLASSIC Film…Witnessed #VijaySethupathi ‘s Another Shade in #Viduthalai2, What a PERFORMER… He is the Next National Award Loading for this Man #VetriMaaran Can’t Disclose too much, Will everyone know it morning (sic).”

One of the users was shocked by the film and expressed what did not work for him. “#Viduthalai2 #ViduthalaiPart2 A weakly written & directed work that’s overlong & mostly uses montage-like storytelling. Functions more as a politics class than a narrative film. One of the blandest films of the year. A colossal waste of talent, time & resources (sic).”

Sethupathi’s latest project, Viduthalai Part 2, follows the success of Maharaja and released in theatres on December 20. The sequel to the 2023 hit Viduthalai Part 1, Viduthalai Part 2 promises to continue the gripping narrative set in 1987, where the first part revolved around a tragic train derailment linked to a suspected extremist political leader.
