Wamiqa Gabbi embraces ‘skin fasting,’ skipping skincare for 2-3 days to let her skin reset and maintain its natural balance.
Constantly wearing makeup or overloading your skin with products can sometimes do more harm than good. Khufiya actor Wamiqa Gabbi understands this well and takes regular breaks from skincare. Speaking on Pinkvilla’s Get Ready With Me, she shared, “Sometimes, I don’t do anything. I skip 2-3 days. No skincare routine. I want my skin to feel independent—you don’t always need all these serums. I like to let it breathe.”
Is Less Really More When It Comes to Skincare?
Many of us pile on serums and creams in the quest for flawless skin, but experts caution against overuse. “Overusing products, especially those with active ingredients like AHAs, BHAs, or retinoids, can disrupt the skin barrier and increase sensitivity,” said Priyanka Wadhwani, a certified cosmetologist.
Our skin naturally produces sebum, which is essential for hydration and protection. “Constant exfoliation can strip away this natural moisture. Taking a short break, often called ‘skin fasting,’ allows the skin’s microbiome to rebalance,” Wadhwani explained.
The Beauty of Simplicity
Emphasizing the concept of “less is more,” Wadhwani suggests that stepping away from complicated skincare routines for 2-3 days can give your skin the reset it needs. However, this doesn’t mean neglecting your skin entirely. “Basic steps like cleansing with plain water and using a moisturizing sunscreen can protect your skin while it resets,” she added.
Healthy Skin Beyond Products
True skin health goes beyond topical solutions. Hydration, balanced nutrition, quality sleep, and stress management are key. Experts recommend drinking plenty of water, eating antioxidant-rich foods, getting 7-9 hours of sleep, and practicing stress-relief techniques to maintain skin vitality.
So, the next time your skin feels overwhelmed, take a cue from Wamiqa Gabbi and give it the break it deserves—because sometimes, doing less is the best way to care for your skin.
