‘Shōgun’ makers share big update about s2

In the wake of Shōgun’s stunning success, its makers have said the work on season two has been ongoing at full speed.

Initially slated as a limited series, the historical drama has been renewed for two seasons.

“Well, it’s ongoing,” said executive producer/creator Rachel Kondo. “We’re still trying. We haven’t given up. And I’m not sure what we can say.”

Her co-creator Justin Marks said, “We’re about six weeks from the end of the writers room.”

In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Justin said, “The third season is really an ending. We know where it starts, and we know where it ends, and we know who is there on that journey.”

“We’re just focusing on part two right now to really make sure we can get to that point,” the creator noted.

In other news, Anna Sawai, who played Toda Mariko, won the Golden Globes award for her performance in Shōgun.

In her acceptance speech, the actress lauded the writers, saying, “Thank you to our incredible writers. Without a good script, it’s impossible to give a performance to our fullest potential. Thank you. Everyone else, I’m going to thank you later.”
