My only submission would be that Blinkit has to make sure that it meets the law of the land, and whatever other legal requirements should be properly taken care of, says Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal.

On 10-minute ambulance service by Blinkit, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal says legal requirements should be properly taken care of.

A day after Zomato-owned quick commerce company Blinkit launched its 10-minute ambulance service, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said the company needs to make sure that the law of the land is followed and all legal requirements are taken care of properly.

At a briefing, Goyal told reporters, as reported by news agency ANI, “As regards Blinkit with ambulance service or medicines being delivered, my only submission would be that they have to make sure that they meet the law of the land, and whatever other legal requirements should be properly taken care of. No laws of the land should be broken.”

Blinkit on Thursday introduced its 10-minute ambulance services, under which it will provide ambulance service at the patient’s doorstep in about 10 minutes. To start with, five ambulances hit the road in Gurugram.

Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa announced, “Our ambulances are equipped with essential life-saving equipment, including oxygen cylinders, AED (Automated External Defibrillator), stretcher, monitor, suction machine, and essential emergency medicines and injections.”

Each ambulance has a paramedic, an assistant and a trained driver to make sure we are able to deliver the highest quality of service in time of need, he added.

“Profit is not a goal here. We will operate this service at an affordable cost for customers and invest in really solving this critical problem for the long term,” he said.

The company already provides products like food items, cosmetics and beauty products, daily essentials, pet care products, etc, as a quick commerce service.

Meanwhile, Piyush Goyal on Friday also met stakeholders from the electric vehicle (EV) sector and discussed various issues, including development of battery charging and swapping infrastructure, according to a PTI report citing an official.

Officials from Department of Heavy Industries, and Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) also attended the meeting.

Representatives from Tata, TVS and Mercedes-Benz India participated in the deliberations.

“The interaction was on development of battery charging and swapping infrastructure,” the official said.

According to an industry official, certain issues were raised on the location of swapping stations and charging infrastructure, and standards.
