According to some self-proclaimed skin experts “winter warming creams” form a protective layer to shield the skin from cold weather
Many states in India are currently experiencing severe cold weather. The mercury has also dropped in Delhi-NCR, leading people to adopt various methods to combat the chill.
During winter, most people face the problem of dry skin. To alleviate this, dermatologists often recommend using moisturisers. Additionally, people use sunscreen before sun exposure to protect their skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays. Interestingly, winter warming creams have become a recent topic of discussion on social media.
Numerous viral social media videos feature individuals claiming to be skin experts and promoting creams that purportedly protect skin from cold weather. These creams are being marketed as “winter warming creams,” with proponents suggesting that they create a protective layer on the skin that shields against the cold.
However, health experts disagree with these claims. Doctors do not support the purported benefits of these products. According to experts, while many skincare creams can combat skin dryness during winter, they cannot provide protection against cold temperatures.
Speaking to News18, Dr. Raman Sharma, Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi said, “There is no such cream, which forms a protective layer on the skin in winter and does not let the cold be felt. It is possible that some products in the market are claiming this, but no cream can protect people from the cold.”
“There are moisturising creams to protect the skin and protect it from dryness in winter, but they do not work to protect from the cold. Applying sunscreen also cannot provide such benefits. People should avoid this misunderstanding and should wear proper warm clothes and take care of food to avoid the cold,” he added.
