On December 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Prayagraj and conducted a pooja at the Sangam before initiating construction projects totalling Rs 5,500 crore to upgrade the city’s facilities and infrastructure for the Mela.

Millions of pilgrims and tourists flock to the host city for the Maha Kumbh Mela, which takes place every 12 years. An estimated 400–450 million tourists are anticipated to visit Prayagraj in 2025, resulting in significant economic activity.

In addition to their religious significance, occasions such as the Maha Kumbh promote tourism, job creation, and economic growth, which benefits nearby companies and advances India’s economy as a whole.

According to an earlier Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) estimate, the Kumbh Mela of 2019 earned overall revenues of Rs 1.2 lakh crore, while the last such Maha Kumbh in 2013 generated total revenues of Rs 12,000 crore, including infrastructure upgrading of hotels and airports.

Despite its spiritual and religious significance, the Kumbh Mela’s economic activities created jobs for more over six lakh people in 2019 across a range of industries, according to CII.

As businesses see a huge potential for consumption during the 45-day Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, India Inc. plans to spend at least Rs 3,000 crore on branding and marketing alone, according to Economic Times.
