Centre hikes MSP for Copra by up to 121%

The Economic Affairs Cabinet Committee has approved the 2025 season’s Minimum Support Price (MSP) for copra.
Following the 2018-19 Union Budget declaration, the government established that MSP for all mandated crops would be set at a minimum of 1.5 times the all-India weighted average production cost.
The Fair Average Quality milling copra’s MSP is fixed at Rs 11582/- per quintal, whilst ball copra’s MSP is set at Rs 12100/- per quintal for 2025 season. From the 2014 marketing season to 2025, the government has raised the MSP for milling copra from Rs 5250 to Rs 11582 per quintal, showing a 121 per cent increase. Similarly, ball copra’s MSP has increased from Rs 5500 to Rs 12100 per quintal, representing a 120 per cent rise.
The enhanced MSP will ensure coconut growers receive better returns and encourage farmers to increase copra production, addressing the rising demand for coconut products in domestic and international markets.
Under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED) and National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation (NCCF) will maintain their roles as Central Nodal Agencies (CNAs) for procuring copra and de-husked coconut.
