Jim Carrey gets honest about retirement remarks

Jim Carrey is promoting ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ where he stars as villain Dr. Robotnik

Jim Carrey is clarifying his stance on retiring from acting as he promotes Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Carrey previously said he’d retire or at least take a break from the profession after Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

He then went on to reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 which will hit theaters on December 20.

“You can’t be definite about these things. I said I’d like to retire but I think I was talking more about power resting,” the Dumb and Dumber star told ComicBook. He also said he’s open to reprising his role as the Grinch, but without the makeup, which he called “excruciating.” He’s also open to making a sequel of The Mask, which starred Cameron Diaz alongside Carrey.

“Because as soon as a good idea comes your way, or a group of people you really enjoy working with, things tend to change,” he added.

His previous comments came while he was promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 2. He told Access Hollywood: “I’m being fairly serious. It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink, that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road. But I’m taking a break.”

When AP recently asked Jim Carrey about his 2022 comments about taking a break, he remarked: “That might have been hyperbole.”
