Former football legend David Beckham will reportedly not receive a knighthood from King Charles this year despite close ties with the royal family.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, per Daily Express, instead of Beckham, another football figure will get knighthood from King Charles this year.
David Beckham received an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2003 and has not received another title since.
Speculations over whether David would receive the honour has been swirling ever since King Charles ascended to the throne in 2022.
Speaking to the Mail, the insider claimed: “It’s not happening for David this time around.”
The royal source further claimed instead of David Beckham, Gareth Southgate, England’s former manager who resigned earlier in the summer, will receive the title.
The insiders said: “It’s Gareth’s big hurrah and David is thrilled for him.
“David knew it wouldn’t be his time and he is fine with that but you never know what is down the line.”
