Jimmy Kimmel and his wife Molly McNearney are hoping their kids will soon outgrow a holiday tradition that is both hilarious and relatable.
During their conversation with People magazine at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Gala, the couple, who work together on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and have two children, Jane, 10, and Billy, 7, reflected on the Christmas tradition.
Talking about the elf toy parents move each night to make it look like it comes alive, McNearney said, “We were hoping that they outgrew Elf on the Shelf. We’re hoping that they’re done with that. We pray.”
“We’re lucky if we remember to move it,” Kimmel articulated, while the 46-year-old wife of Kimmel added, “We resent that elf.”
When asked what happens when they forget to move the elf, McNearney replied, “Then he has COVID. We did that one time during COVID. We’re like, ‘Oh, I bet he had Covid and he couldn’t move!'”
As for their most “creative” Elf on the Shelf move, McNearney shared, “We made it look like it was hungover, throwing up over the toilet. We’re not great at it.”
Moving forward, the pair shared that they mostly have “regular” traditions for the holidays, but they also have one special tradition, revealing, “We have a tradition where we make Jesus a birthday cake with the kids, and we sing Happy Birthday to Jesus.”
Furthermore, they also discussed how they work together while being married, as McNearney mentioned, “We worked together for eight years before dating, and so we really just kind of kept that the same. We know how to compartmentalize. It definitely can be difficult when I pitch ideas to get rejected by my husband, but it’s okay. I’ve got thick skin.”
Kimmel added, “I get rejected plenty, believe me.”
It is pertinent to mention that Kimmel and McNearney tied the knot in 2013 after dating each other for three years.
