Sources: G-Tech giving AD Batt new 5-year deal

Georgia Tech athletic director J Batt is finalizing a new five-year deal that will extend him at the school through 2029 and increase his compensation, sources told ESPN Monday.

The deal still needs formal approval from the Georgia Tech Athletic Association later this week, sources said.

Batt arrived at Georgia Tech in October of 2022 and has provided an energy bolt to Tech’s athletic department.

On the field, he elevated interim football coach Brent Key to the permanent role. That has paid dividends, as Key has led Tech to back-to-back bowl seasons. This year, Tech pulled upsets of then-No. 10 Florida State in Dublin and then-No. 4 Miami in Atlanta. In its bowl, Tech has a chance to win eight games for the first time since 2016.

Batt also hired Damon Stoudamire as men’s basketball coach, and he’s off to an 18-21 start in two seasons.

Batt came to Georgia Tech from Alabama, where his roles included executive deputy director of athletics, chief operating officer and chief revenue officer over his five years there.

He has provided a fundraising and revenue-growth jolt at Tech, including the formal naming of Hyundai Field.
