The news of Indian badminton star and double Olympic medallist, PV Sindhu’s wedding to IT professional Venkata Datta Sai came as a wonderful surprise for her fans and followers today. Sindhu’s father PV Ramana told PTI that her wedding was confirmed just a month ago, and December 22nd is picked as her wedding date in Udaipur followed by a grand reception in Hyderabad on December 24th. While much is known about PV Sindhu as a sports star, did you know that she also has an elder sister who was also a sportsperson? Well, read on to know more about her here.
Meet PV Sindhu’s elder sister
PV Sindhu’s sister PV Divya is seven years older than her, and she was also a national-level sports person. However, unlike PV Sindhu, PV Divya was a handball player but later on, she quit sports and instead pursued academics to become a doctor.
In 2012, PV Divya married Sreeram Goalla in a grand wedding. However, PV Sindhu missed her sister’s wedding for her sport! Incidentally, PV Sindhu’s sister’s wedding happened to be on the same day as her final match at the Syed Modi International India Grand Prix back then due to which she had to miss her sister’s big day. At the time, when PV Sindhu was asked about missing her sister’s wedding day for her final match, she had told IANS, “I will try to win the tournament and give it as a gift to her.” Unfortunately, Sindhu lost the match to Indonesia’s Lindaweni Fanetri.
Meanwhile, the sisters seem to share a close bond as PV Sindhu often posts pictures with her lesser-known elder sister and even her brother-in-law on her social media profile.

Recalling a fond childhood memory with her sister PV Divya, PV Sindhu once told Forbes India in an interview, “She (Divya) was more into studies. She wanted to become a doctor back then and she was showing a lot of interest in her studies. She used to play well; at the school level, she used to be number one. Even studies… She studies well. She used to play basketball and netball. There was this small incident when I was pretty young. My sister and my cousin were playing badminton near my house and I wanted to play with them. And we are seven years apart; she (Divya) is older than me… So when they were playing badminton, I was like ‘Let me also join you and play’, and they were like ‘You don’t know how to play’. So when I look back, I’m like ‘Okay, let’s see’ and we all laugh at it! But it was a really funny incident and nobody thought that I would be a champion and be here today.”

PV Sindhu’s parents– father PV Ramana and mother P Vijaya– have been national-level volleyball players of their time. This shows their family’s love, interest, and inclination towards sports from an early age. In fact, Sindhu’s father PV Ramana was a part of the 1986 Seoul Asian Games that had won a bronze medal.
